So the big day has come and gone, the flowers are dead, the dress is in storage and all you have left are the presents, the memories and your photos; but which is the best way to share wedding photos?

There are of course several choices:

• you can have a traditional album, these come in a massive range to suit every taste.
• you can have an online gallery hosted where friends and family can go to see your photos whenever they want.
• you can have a wedding story book made up of your favourite images in the order and style of your choice.
• you can have all the images burnt onto a DVD, or several copies of the same DVD to pass around your family and friends.
• you can have all the images printed out in packs and give them away as gifts.

The online gallery option is particularly attractive if you have family that live abroad as it gives them instant access. The DVD option is also very good in this circumstance as they have the full size images to hand for printing or uploading or simply sharing wedding photos on the TV.

There are many, many options it just depends on your particular preferences. We are noticing that most couples now prefer the online option, (including the option to buy online), coupled with a DVD which they can take away and play with. They can then get the images printed or upload them to one of the many social networking sites.

How to choose a wedding photographer.

Well there are several things to think about when you are choosing a wedding photographer; you might think of more:

• cost
• location
• popularity
• reputation
• portfolio
• recommendations

The best and most trusted way of how to choose a wedding photographer is to have them recommended by a friend who used that particular photographer;  just bear in mind that unlike wine photographers don’t always improve with age so if the pictures were done many years before it might well be worth checking their current portfolio.

Have they got a web site? If so go and have a good snoop around. Is their portfolio recent and carrying at least four or five weddings? (Isn’t more better?), well if they have time to prepare and upload hundreds if not thousands of images into a portfolio then they can’t be very busy!

See if you can arrange to meet and talk to photographers, do a face-to-face comparison, (not in a group though!), just because they take a decent picture does not mean that they will be good to work with.  Some photographers can be very demanding and this can cause a lot of unnecessary stress on your big day;  will they listen to your suggestions or is it their way or no-way, if this is the case you might be better working with someone else.

What are the prices like, don’t just go for the cheapest option, in life you generally get what you pay for and if they are that cheap they might just be desperate for the work,  make sure you compare the prices against his quality of work. Are they running any promotions that might help your budget; are they open to negotiation, if they are a smart business they will negotiate, if only a little.

Do they come recommended by a hotel or venue? This usually means that they have confidence in the photogrpaher. Professional venues won’t want to damage their reputation by linking to a poor photographer.

What do you get for your money, it used to be a huge album but couples getting married today can and will expect several things from their photographer, its not like it used to be!

• you should expect to get an online gallery
• the option of an online shop
• a DVD containing all the images at full size and at 300 dpi (print quality)
• maybe a discount off an album or photo book

In the end though you have to trust your gut instincts and go with the photographer you believe can do the best job having weighed up all the factors.
